I am parti qularly grateful to have your suggestions for a lecturer to give the Donald E. Cummings Memorial Lecture, Yours are the first suggestions that have come in. Obviously no action vill be taken by ne, but I shall accumulate all the suggestions , and the matter will be given careful ccnsideration. I co nsider that your argument in connection vith your proposal of Bill Yant is e very good one. With referenee to your query in regard to the so-called squabble ab out the meeting place, I should say that there is nothing in particular back of it, except vhat has appeared on the surface You are veil avare of the irritations of one kind or ano ther that have developed betveen the tvo organizations. The y do not quite see alike on a number of matters, and perhaps it vi11 not be possible to bring them to see alike. The present controversy,if it can be called a convo versy, revo lves around tvo main points; - (l) the program at St. Louis v.as so arranged that the meetings of the tvo societie often occur red simultaneously, aid therefore it vas impossible for one to hear the papers that he vould have vanted to listen to in both programs; and (2) the emphasis in the A.A.I.P. and S. management has been too much on the importance of commercial exhibits. Actually at St. Louis, the scientific exhibits vere mixed in vi th commercial exhibits to some extent, and the vay to the mee ying rooms vas so established that it vas necessary to go throi^gh all of the scientific exhibits if one vished to attend one of the sessions, representatives of the A.I.H.A. have object ed to both of th-?3e and feel quite correctly that these matta:rs vill have to be corrected if ve are to continue joint meet i^s. In other vords, A.I.H.A. representatives insls1 that a joint meeting is one in which the entire program is availabl e to all, and that commercial considerations should not be perm itted to Influence in any way .the professional and scientific aspects of the meeting. Actually even the meeting place on th Is occasion is apparently being determined by A .A. I .P. and S . on the basis of the convenience of commercial exhibits . Moreover, at Its meeting in St. Louis the Board of Directors o.f A.I.H.A. agreed that an eastern meeting place would be de sirable. Our wishes in this regard have not been Dr. Cordon C ..Harrold - (2; - August 21 , given much consideration .
