Any travel expenses would be reimbursed directly by APCX to the employee." Dr. Kuschner was still quite Insistent chat this Is what we ought to do. Dr. Tepper was a little more lukewarm about it. Personally* I suspect it ought to be done if for no other motive than to com pletely fulfil our responsibility in case of future suit. I you wane me to proceed with arrangements at Gainesville, let me know and I will call Dr. Kniffen again and make the arrange ments. It might be just as well to send them both together. Lloyd Tepper also agrees that we should use 125 as the upper limits of normal for the SMA-performed alkaline phosphatase. He reviewed the liver blopeiee on and found absolutely no evidence of any change attributable to exposure to vinyl chloride monomer. He also reviewed the elides that Dr. Dan Lucas provided of a liver biopsy on a former employee. Again, this showed some fatty infiltration but no evidence of vinyl chloride damage. I don't recall that one's name. *^!$Lnally, on people like et el, once we have studied them exhaustively, including a negative liver scan, he feels that we can just check a complete laboratory profile every six months. Finally, Dr. Kuschner vented ue to consider finding e liver expert in this area who could review all of the Information and see the patients like I have talked with Dr. Kniffen at West Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville, who la the nearest thing ve have to a hepatologist In this area. He is anxious to review the Information and see the men. Dr. Kuschner Is particularly interested in an opinion about just the abnormal liver function tests, not particularly a possible relationship to vinyl chloride, as I understand It. He was going to clear this with Mr. Watson. Dr. Kniffen has been taking care of several of our patients with active aggressive hepatitis, using steroids and immunosuppressants and should be able to help us,hopefully.
