BOILER JOB Moves Fast Through WILMINGTON WORKS December 17. FM boiler, built in record time at Wilmington Works, is loaded on Seaboord Airline Railroad car for shipment, seven days before the job was scheduled for delivery, at Hialeah, Florida. There's "proof of the pudding" in this picture story of the fabrication of an FM boiler at Wilmington Works. It's a story which tells another story of good job per formance, speedy action on the shop floor and close coor dination of shop operations on the part of the men of the Wilmington Works and of the FM Boiler Department which handled the job. The job--FM-327--for a customer at Hialeah, Fla., had to be fabricated and delivered within 30 days of the date the order was received. The Wilmington boys, without upsetting their regular schedules on other FM jobs, han dled the assignment with a few days to spare. Pictures show the day-to-day and week-to-week prog ress on the boiler as it took shape in the shops, with one operation following closely after another until the job was completed and loaded for shipment. The job was sold November 24, 1954. Following prompt receipt by telephone from Barberton, of size and other information, the Drum Shop went to work on preparation of drums. On November 29 drums were ready with noz zles in place, base ready except for painting, tubes bent and waiting to be installed. Pictures tell the rest of the story. November 30; 8ase of boiler is lowered into position by David Gore in FM Department. Before the day was over the drums had been jigged and workmen were rolling tubes in side the drum. Materials had been prepared and conveniently placed for use by workmen in the various sections of the shop. December 1. Work of rolling in boiler tubes is 90 per cent completed.
