The limit will drop to 0.06% lead after December 31, 1974, unless research to be conducted by the consumer Product safety commission (CPSC) shows that a higher level (up to 0.5%) is safe. The law supersedes any state or local laws which have requirements relating to lead in paint which differ from this law. The CPSC has not yet acted on the NPCA petition for exemption of industrial and Refinish paints.
