This is in response to your request for comments on the source of the above noted sample. For easy reference the table from Blair's letter
of August 26, 1975 is reproduced with the data for the new wetted Canadian Flosal written in. A prior summary of the various competitive materials is also attached.
The AEC Test.and the 2 g/1 wet bulk show clearly that this material is different from any of the Flosal products now or previously available. The 2 g/1 wet bulk was so low that we rechecked and duplicated the results. The asbestos settles right out leaving a cloudly supernatant liquid that appears to contain lots of finely ground rock. The material is also coarser than the competitive products shown.
The long fibers present are typical of asbestos from Canada or from Canadian type cross fiber type deposits. The magnetite level, however, is on the low side for Canadian products. I would guess that this is a relatively poorly refined product from Canada or from a similar form of deposit in some other country, possibly Mexico. It is definitely not "new Flosal" or a sam ple left over from Coalinga.
