ATI-44 ASHESTOS TEXTILE INSTITUTE MINUTES of the meeting of the Dust Control Committee held ' at the Engineers Club, Phila., Pa* on September 5 1946* IN ATTENDANCE: B W. LfcKINNEY Institute Jfenager NO. 1 The meeting was opened by Mr. Stanton, acting-chairman of the Committee, with a reading of the minutes of the Board of Governors' meeting, held June 19th, wherein the duties of the Dust Control Committee were outlined. NO. 2 ' Dr. Vestal's plan was presented for discussion, and Mr, Stanton outlined the position of JOHNS-MANVILLE as regards this plan. He stated that J-M has extensive medical and industrial hygiene departments, and consequently, did not feel the need for a program such as Dr. Vestal suggested. However, he expressed his Com pany's willingness to cooperate with the other Institute members by making available to them such information as might be helpful in planning or expanding their own health programs. NO. 9 MT-001956 Mr. Luttenberger described the industrial hygiene activities of the RAYBESTCS- MANHATTAN CORPORATION. He then suggested that the Dust Control Committee approach their assignment from the "preventative* angle before working on the "curative" basis, i.e., by using every practical means to eliminate the dust at its source. MS 002552 PRODUCED JM - 83 ATI-44 -2Mr. Luttenberger further recommended full cooperation between member companies on the interchange of information as to ways and means of eliminating dust. This suggestion met with the approval of all present. NO. h IvS*. Luttenberger proposed that the Gommittee follow through with the conmittee assignment to contact the various Health Departments of the State, Mellon Institute and Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., and to obtain their suggestions as to how to approach this problem. After plans from these sources have been received, it might be feasible to contact the U. S. Dept, of Health. Therefore, it was recommended and approved by all present that the Conmittee should table Hr. Vestal's plan until after the above information had been received and studied. NO. 5. Stanton, c/o JOKNS-MANVULE CCRP., Manville, New Jersey, who will then prepare a Conmittee report for presentation at the next General Jfeeting of the Institute to be held on October 3, 19^6. NO. 6 ' Mr. Stanton then presented his report covering the tests on various respirators. Attached is a copy of this report. MT-001957 PRODUCED JM-83 MS 002553 ATI-44 3~ A. letter from Mr* Marshall of Raybestos-Manhattan was presented* wherein he suggested changing the w*TM* of the Dust Control Committee to "Air hygiene Committee** This point was discussed, and it was agreed that the matter would be brought up at the next meeting of the Board of Governors for their consideration. NO. 8 Mr. Stanton presented an outline of the Johns-Manville Industrial Hygiene Program and points therein were discussed in some detail. It was felt that this compre hensive plan might be of interest to others and Mr* Stanton authorized its reproduction for circulation to all member companies. .
