A portion of the meeting was devoted to the subject of the Navy's effort to seek substitutes for asbostos textiles. It was determined that the Naval Ship igineerinc Center has not finalised its report on high temperature insulation, but stops wero taken in the Commit* tee to Insure that the Institute is kept informed on the subject. At the last meeting, you may recall that wo planned to investigate the possibility of arranging free subscriptions of "ASJi&TOS" mag* azine to college libraries and other institutions. Aa wo began to Investigate this subject In detail, we wero led into a more compre hensive discussion of the purpose of the cois-ilttoe. In view of the treraenoous interest in the hoalth hazard involved with the uee of asbestos, it was felt that tho Committee's aims should be broadened. W began to probe in the sroa of public relations and new products. We feel that the scope of tho Committee .should be .widened^. _Ifc was agreed that the general work accomplished in the years past now seems to have beon basically completed. We feel that a re-axamin* ation is in order and work will be done in tills area before our next meeting. You may also recall that we were to investigate the possibility of embarking on an lnstitute*s?onsored advertising nrogram. This, also, leads us into the scope of the Coisalttce and convinces us that public relations is more descriptive of tho areas that wo should be concerned with. 1 believe thAt you will find at the next General Heating that we will be ablo to more clearly define the work of this Committee.
