Mr. Gordon Smith President, Better Bond Drywall Products Ltd. 11833- 1^5 Street Edmonton, Alberta CANADA Dear Mr. Smith:
Pursuant to your letter of August 22nd, we want you to be clearly aware that we have the consideration of all commercial manufacturers and users of asbestos-related products in mind as will be affected by our proposed regula tions.
We realize the hardships that will ensue upon dozens and dozens of industries if, in fact, the proposed regulations do go into effect. On the other hand, our primary purpose is to protect both the consumer and the user of products that are inherently unsafe and therefore we must, in some cases, accept unfavorable economic consequences as the cost of this protection.
We have put your comments and observations on the difficulty of work ing with asbestos-free compounds in our files and 1 am sure it will be of per tinent evidence when we come to consider our final regulations or restrictions.
We thank you for your observations and for the time you have taken to write to us.
