Provide an enclosed area similar to attached sketch in old Battery room for fluffing of asbestos for cathodes. This area is to be air-conditioned and provided with a plexiglass enclosed table for the fluffing and weighing of asbestos fibers.
Reason for Expenditure
It is necessary to "fluff" or sort through the asbestos prior to its use for depositing cathodes to be certain that no foreign matter is present. Due to OSHA regulations on asbestos, it is necessary to minimize the contact of personnel with dry asbestos. The old 3attery room area is presently being used as the asbestos storage and fluffing area in order to separate asbestos from other areas and therefore confine the asbestos "problem" to one location. This room is hot in the summer and at times organic fumes from the laboratory become very strong nicking it uncomfortable to work here. The men are required to wear coats and masks further increasing the discomfort. Enclosing the area would further confine the loose asbestos problem and would also make the task more bearable. It is also felt that the enclosed plexiglass table arrangement would be superior to the present method used to fluff the asbestos.
