Riding on the DROTT Crane 1 This vehicle was not designed for carrying passengers. There are no handholds and riders would obstruct the driver's visibility. SAC recommends the DROTT be designated a "no riders" vehicle and appropriate signs be placed on them to remind personnel of this policy. AN Walkway The creation of a designated walkway sou$h of the inter changers in Dept. 51 has been proposed. SAC has reviewed this proposal and recommends adoption for foot traffic only. It is also recommended that area operations and maintenance personnel be reminded that riding bicycles through operating areas without hard hats and glasses when coming or going to the gate is violation of the safety rules and will not be condoned. 4. Portable Buildings (Ref. S&PP Survey, Item 81-6) Recommend a survey be conducted by SHAC of all portable buildings and trailers to show: A. Location, use and ownership. B. Can it be moved, removed? Recommend action. LA1V1014559 The objectives of the recommendation should be cost improvement, fire protection and housekeeping, in that order of priorities. / r. SC 13339 STG 2430309 2 First line Supervisor Safety Program One of the objectives SAC proposes for 1982 is the enhancement of the participation and commitment of this key group in the plant safety program through regular meetings of this group to review safety material of importance to them. In order to get this program going, it is proposed that the LP&S representative in SHAC work with the Safety Contact Supervisors as a steering committee to recommend to SAC the format and content of these meetings for 1982. 6. MCI Plant Safety and Housekeeping Recommendations A. Interpretation of "first flange rule". SAC will propose action at March PMSB meeting. B. AVA V ' AC/ V .V*' Use of face shields. The inspection team recommended consideration of requiring face shields as well as eye protection for taking samples and breaking into lines containing corrosive and hot materials. We have reviewed the current rules regarding eye and face protection in p.10-13 of the "Guide to Accident Prevention", and recommend we should continue present plant practice of leaving the determination of the required safety equipment for each special job to the supervisor involved. The use of splash hoods, giving better protection than face shields is already widespread for specific hazardous jobs and will be highlighted in the next issue of the Guide. 7. Safety Procedure Updating Status report format has been issued to PMSB members responsible for updates requesting status and target completion dates. SAC will continue to monitor until this round of major revisions is complete and propose a routine update system for the future. nr SC 13340 C. F. Testing for adequacy of decontamination and double block and bleeding, etc., of the system should be employed to assure the system is safe to enter.
