Careytemp was designed and formulated to include the most important thermal, physical, chemical and moisture resistant properties demanded by industrial users of thermal insulation. Careytemp is composed of expanded perlite with spe cially developed binders and is reinforced with inorganic fibers. Expanded perii:e insulation is a structure consist ing of millions ol individual glassed-in vitrified air cells permanently bonded together to resist Water penetration. Careytemp is recommended for the insulation of piping, vessels and equipment operating from ambient to 1500 *F. In temperature, either continuous or cyclic oper ation. It is also recommended for fire protection of piping, equipment, vessel and structural steel. Its moisture re sistance is particularly advantageous tor these applica tions which normally operate at ambient temperature. Careytemp's exceptional strength and tight weight re duce application costs. Non-crumbling, precision-molded Careytemp is superior in those properties most respon sible tor longer-tasting, more efficient insulation--it has practically no linear shrinkage, exceptional water resist ance (lowest absorption rate of any high temperature Insulation), low thermal conductivity up to 1500* F. and Is highly acid-resistant. They are recommended Ict^use on pipmq systems operating from atmospheric temperature to 1500' F. Easily applied. Careytemp Premoldcd Elbows eliminate mitering seg ments, voids and also cut application costs. Careytemp Elbows are available in many iron pipe and copper tubing sizes and in thicknesses to match other adjacent insulations, in cluding low pressure coverings, fibrous glass, calcium silicates and others. Both 45* and 90* long and short radius ells are available for welded, screwed and sweat el bows. Iron pipe sizes range from % " to 14". 1" to 4' thick. Careytemp ells are furnished tor steam tracing purposes. w *...... . 1 t\ c.'.r.nYTcry Careytemp pipe insulation is available pre-jacketed at thei*-', factory with aluminum .016" thick. Aluminum jacketed Careytemp has a fine embossed finish that will not catch dust and dirt, prevents glare and minimizes surface scratches. Along the longitudinal seam, special inter locking lips snap togetner to form a weather-tight seal. Butt joints are sealed with a matching aluminum band having an integral scaling compound which resists direct contact temperature to 400* F. A built-in barrier is be tween the jacketing and the insulation as a precaution against electrolytic corrosion of the aluminum. The inherent water resist ance ol Careytemp com bined with the weather seal seam and special sealing band ol aluminum Jacketing provide an ex cellent weather protected Insulation. . Insulation on pipes over 12" in diameter and all outdoor piping shall be wired in place with 16 gauge soil annealed Iron wire on approximately 9" centers. Where double layer insulation is applied, the first layer shall be secured with wire, the second layer should be applied with all joints staggered and secured with wire. Elbows shall be insulated with Premolded Carcytemp elbow covers wired in place and finished by pasting on a 4-oz. canvas jacket. Other fittings, flanges and valves shall be Insulated with covers fabricated from Careytemp Pipe Insulation or built up with MW-One cement It is recommended for large vessels, such as towers, tanks, stills, etc., that angle iron supports be installed on 12-lt. centers. On large vessels, vertical angle iron mem bers should be installed to hold a 30-11. maximum length of the securing wire or band. Horizontal vessels over 6 feet in diameter should have two steel angles welded to the vessel shell approximately 30 degrees below the horizontal center line. The depth ol these supports should be held to Vs " less than the insulation thickness. r:?z ccvzr.irc, Piping shall be clean and dry and shall be tested before insulation is applied. Por hot water, cold water and low pressure steam lines SO" F. to 250* F. All cold water lines shall be insulated with Thermogias (snap-on type) pipe insulation having a universal jacket. Hot water and low pressure steam lines shall be insulated with Thermogias (snap-on type) pipe covering having either a canvas or universal jacket. See the Carey Indus trial Insulation Manual for proper thickness. Indoor piping under 12" diameter supplied with a factory applied jacket requires no additional finish under normal conditions. Indoor piping over 12" diameter shall be finished with a 6-oz. canvas jacket neatly pasted in place. Outdoor piping shall be finished with a 45-pound organic or asbestos felt jacket with both longitudinal and hori zontal joints lapped a minimum of 2".
