For more than a decade. 3M has been develop ing and manufacturing innovative industrial respirators, SAL 000Oo69:1.8 #8711 RESPIRATOR FITTING INSTRUCTIONS Place respirator under -- * chin wtti nosepiece up. Cup respirator in hand with nosepiece ol finger tips allowing straps to hang freely below hand. Pull top band over head and position at top back of head Pull bottom band over head and position around neck below ears Using both hands, mold metal nosepiece to shape of nose. Position the facepiece on the face and tighten each head harness; a. grasp buckle with left hand and pull out from hair. b. pull forward on the loose elastic with the right hand The tension in the head hcmess may be de creased without removing Ihe respirator from the head. To loosen a head harness: a. grasp the elaslic in front of the buckle with the left hand. P. grasp Ihe buckle in right hand and push out on flat surface. The seal of Ihe facepiece on the face must be tested prior to wearing the resoirator for protection in a contaminated ctmcsphere. a. Cover the fronl of respirator with both hands, being careful not to disturb the position of the facepiece, b. Exhale sharply, a positive pressure should be felt inside the facepiece. If air leakage is detected, adjust the position of the facepiece on fhe face and/or adjust the tension in the elostic strapping of the head harness loops. Retest the seat of the facepiece to the face. Repeat this procedure until the facepiece is seated properly to the face. TOXIC SUBSTANCE WARNING The need for proper respiratory protection during painting is extremely important because the iso cyanate vapors used with acrylic enamels and polyurethanes can cause lung irritation and al lergic respiratory reactions. In some cases, con tinued exposure will lead to severe reactions, Studies and laboratory tests have shown the #8711 respirator is effective in removing isocyanate vapors generated during painting. The 3M Brand #8711 respirator protects against vapor and paint particulates from: Enamels, Lacquers, Epoxies, Acrylic Enamels. Polyurethanes. CAUTION When the #8711 respirator is used as protection against isocyanate hardeners, it must be dis posed of after five days of use.e.g., Monday thru Friday, regardless of length of total spray time. -NIOSH/MESA APPROVAL STATUS The 3M Brand Spray Paint Respirator #8711 is not approved by NIOSH/MESA at this time because the respirator does not meet the design criteria specified in 30 CFR Part 11. Changes in 30 CFR Part 11 are pending that will allow this spray paint respirator to be approved. We have on file data to prove the #8711 respirator operates as well as if not better than a NIOSH/MESA approved sprciy paint respirator. OSHA ACCEPTANCE* Information outlining the technical adequacy of the No. 87VI Respirator for use against isocyanate containing paints can be provided to our cus tomers upon written request, as necessary in accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration Field Directive #300-9 dated June 9.1977, para graph G.I.g on page 18. ATTENTION INDUSTRIAL HYGIENISTS An industrial Hygienist should determine the suitability of this product for any intended use. Selection and recommendation for usage of the respirator must be made after the proper assessment of the working environment. This will require a thorough knowledge of all processes, related equipment, raw materials, products and applications which can create an exposure hazard, THE FOLLOWING WARRANTY IS MADE IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED.
