WORK PRACTICES A. Wet Methods - Asbestos must be handled in a wet state sufficient to prevent the emission of fibers in excess of the PEL. \ B. Particular Products Operations - No asbestos containing material shall be removed from containers in which it was shipped without either being wetted or enclosed to prevent fiber release C. Spraying, Demolition, or Removal - Employees engaged in demolition activities SHALL BE provided with and required to wear respiratory protection and protective clothing. Special Clothing - Must be worn by all exposed in excess of Ceiling limit (coveralls, head covering, gloves, and foot coverings). Contaminated clothing must be disposed of in sealed labeled containers. V. MONITORING A. Personal Monitoring - for both 8 hour TWA and Ceiling determinations. B. Environmental Monitoring - for both 8 hour TWA and .Ceiling determinations. VI. CAUTION SIGNS & LABELS A. Required where levels exceed PEL. B. Posted at all approaches to areas containing excessive concentrations of airborne asbestos fibers. C. Waste Disposal procedures shall be according to established plant procedures. VIII. TRAINING A. Minimum training is to include: (1) Health effects associated with asbestos exposure. (2) Relationship between asbestos and smoking in producing lung cancer. (3) Jobs/Tasks that could result in exposure to asbestos and necessary protection steps to minimize exposure.
