Outlook After more than a decade of unusually high economic activity, 1954 may be a year of transition. Governmental agencies predict that total new building--residential, farm, commer cial. industrial and public--is likely to be about 4 per cent less than in 1953, and that new housing starts, in excess of 1,000,000 units in every year since World War II. may drop as much as 10 per cent. Since agricultural in come has been declining due to world wide conditions, expenditures for farm buildings are expected to fall below last year. Although new building activitv has an in- Sr5.965.7Z9 FtClRE h 9 GAF 12770 lluerice on xour cumpanv's operations, th-market for repairs and maintenance is of greater importance, since it normaliv accountfor over 60 per cent of Ruberoid s sales. Expe rience shows that more renovations ami repairs are usually undertaken when new buildinu activity slow? down. U ith a growing popula tion receix ing the highest income in our history, it seems certain that repair- and maintenance of existing structures w ill be increased in 1954. \our company is actixeh stimulating new markets throueh impruved product- and inten sified promotion.
