Unscrew each steady post by two full turns. 14. Turn the wheel brake adjusters in a clockwise direction until the brake shoes lock the brake drum. 15. Screw in one brake shoe steady post until it contacts the brake shoe web, and tighten the locknut using the special adjuster tool (Tool No. 648270251. 16. Repeat the adjustment operations for the . second brake shoe steady post. 17. Readjust the wheel brake assembly as detailed by operation 12 132. 18. Raise the jack sufficiently to remove the axle stands. Remove the axle stands and lower the jack. 7. Place a wire, string or rubber band around the brake shoe expander tappets to prevent the rollers and wedge from faffing out, 8. Hold the lower brake shoe and carrier and remove the carrier return springs. 9. Remove both brake shoes and carriers. 10. This dust contalna aabestoa and la dangerous if inhaled. Care must be exercieed In the removal of the dust. Do not' use an air Una to blow the dust away. Usa a vacuum cleaner. If a vacuum cleaner Is not available use protective breathing equipment and remove the duet with a brush or rag. Collect the dust in a suitable plastic bag for removal. H2L/S TYPE REAR BRAKE ASSEMBLIES NOTE: See illustrations for location of parts. 1. Chock the front wheels. 2. Place a jack under the rear axle and raise the vehicle sufficiently to enable axle stands to be placed under the rear axle at each end in the area within the spring 'U' bolts. Release the parking brake. 3. Remove the axle shaft as described in operation 15 322. 4. Place .a wheel trottsy in position under the wheels. Use a hub nut wrench (Tool No. 15 513A or 15 5148) to unscrew the hub bearing locknut. Remove the scalloped washer and the bearing adjusting nut. Remove the wheel, hub and drum assembly with the outer bearing cone. 5. Turn the rear wheel brake shoe adjusters in an anti-clockwise direction a few turns to slackenoff the brake shoes (see illustration). 6. Remove the brake shoe return springs using the special tool (Tool No. 64327926) or a suitable hook tool which locates in the eyelet of the return springs (see illustration).
