Attached are the results of the fiber sampling done on 30 and 31 May.
As you will note, all fiber counts, with one exception, vrere veil below the present TLV of 5 fibers per ml and below or very close to the 1976 TLV of 1 fibers. The exception was the 6th level of the furnace area'where the sample indicated 3.3 fibers per tnl. Apparently, the ' I heat rise and exhaust fans at this level .tend to concentrate fibers
as weli as; visible dust. I suggest evaluation of the problem by further sampling at the 5th level and lower'levels. .In the interla, if anyone is required to spend more than a very brief period of time at the 6th level, a respirator is suggested as a precautionary measure. I The 2.1 fibers at the discharge end of the iil drier indicate that the drier room is an rea where more extensive testing is advisable. I
doubt if there is a problem but further data should be obtained,
I am sending separately, the clips and more sampling heads. Also, Frank'Serafin, our Laboratory Director, is preparing instructions I for constructing a simple apparatus to calibrate your air sampling pumps.
