'.;e finally got Iris attention today, and I expect Tenneco will be changing about their existing offshore platforms in the not distant future. They currently have four offshore platforms with Therminol FR-1. At this point they appear to be leading toward Therminol 66. However, they had very little information on Dowtherm G. Additionally, Tenneco has five new platforms scheduled to come on between now and August of 1972. The plat forms will almost undoubtedly be filled with soma-th-ing other than PCB. Roder is to confirm pricing information, conversion information, and send additional copies of the Therminol conversion bulletin to Henry Knight. -In our discussions with Henry Knight, and Louis Williams, it came out that \ Tenneco had been asked for information on Organic Halide that they were /' ' using. This may have come from an agency of the government or it may have ' come from internal Tenneco. In any event, this morning, Knight discovered that PCB coikld be classed as an Organic Halide and feels this may be `\- responsible for a 1 million dollar loss in Platinum Catalysts that Tenneco has experienced at their refineries.Halogens appranfently react with the Platinum in such a manor that its carried through the affluent which is loss from the system. Knight inidcated they would flash their system with distilate and return the flushing fluid to us for disposal.
