Vyverberg - New York Central Files A copy of the J. H. Summer teletype concerning the Chemstrand Maintenance Con tract and the Asbestosis problem was sent to Dr. Hibbard. I was asked to cover you, John Vyverberg and others in Marketing covering our efforts to date on this problem. Joiin Vyverberg asked us in late 196? whether Careytemp contained asbestos. We had a box of Careytemp on the shelf that was purchased in August of 1965. We ordered on the open market another box of Careytemp. This was purchased in the Columbus area in November, 1967. X-ray analyses were run on both -samples by Mr. Charles Cohen of the Physics Research Laboratory. He estimated both samples contained approximately 12/o/wt. chrysotile asbestos. Studies made by G. Bowling of Glass Technology also indicated the presence of about jfo/wt. fibrous glass. Results of the above studies were sent to a number of people in Toledo and New York having a direct interest in this problem (see attached copies of* the memorandums from Dr. C. L. McKinnis to A. S. Kevlin dated January 5j 1968 and February 12. 1968 covering this subject). 1 wo-old like to call your attention to one point in the Summer teletype. The ovate of Indiana Board of Health indicated Careytemp1s contribution to Silicosis was negligible. Was this a typing error?
