Herman-
On background:
We are not able to set up an interview for this afternoon, but below is information related to your interest regarding solar projects on coal sites.
From publically available information, RE-Powering America's Land tracks renewable energy installations developed on formerly contaminated lands, landfills and mine sites on its Tracking Matrix (https://www.epa.gov/re-powering/repowering-tracking-matrix) which includes a table listing the various projects. There is a "Former Use Description" field in that table that will help you identify those projects that were built on former mine lands.
The Superfund program has some information on alternative energy reuse that can be found at https://www.epa.gov/superfund-redevelopment-i'nit!ative/alternative-energv-superfund-sites. This site provides links to summaries of a number of revitalized superfund sites that include former mine sites.
EPA sponsors a Clean-Up Information Site that has a focus on mining sites that might provide you relevant information on their revitalization and reuse (https://duin.org/issues/defaultfocus/sec/Characterization, Cleanup, and Revitalization of Mining Sites/cat/Revitalization and Reuse/).
Best,
Tricia
