We are honored to invite your country/institution to the UNEP face-to-face "Global Consultation on chemicals and waste Issues of Concern" on 11-12 July 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland at the Centre International de Conference de Geneve (CICG).
At the fifth session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-5.2), Resolution 5/7 requested the Executive Director to seek views from Member States and other stakeholders on priorities for further work, building on existing measures and initiatives, and on potential further international action on the issues discussed in the Assessment Report on Issues of Concern. The resolution also requested the preparation of a summary analysis, taking into account the views received. In response, UNEP is issuing a call for written inputs at the end of May 2023. UNEP is also convening a Global Consultation on 11-12 July 2023, in Geneva, Switzerland. Further details on UNEPs response to this resolution is available here.
The Global Consultation aims to gather information about the priorities for further work and potential further international action on the 19 Issues of Concern of the Assessment Report on Issues of Concern (available here). The Global Consultation will further elaborate on initial findings from the call for written inputs. The Issues of Concern to be discussed include the 11 issues with emerging evidence of risks identified by the Global Chemicals Outlook Ill and the 8 emerging policy issues and other issues of concern identified under the Strategic Approach2.
We are also pleased to inform you that two representatives from your country/institution are invited to
attend the Global Consultation. We are grateful to receive the nomination of up to two participants by
submitting a completed registration form to

@un.org) at your earliest convenience and no later than 08 June 2023. We recommend
nominating representatives with expertise in chemicals and waste management and to coordinate your
nomination.

Please note that limited funded spaces may be available upon request for one of the two nominated participants to attend the Consultation. Requests for funding support can be accepted no later than 08 June 2023. Funding support is awarded in accordance with UN rules and regulations however, due to budget constraints, not all requests may be awarded funding. Failure to submit your registration form by the indicated deadline may result in a loss of eligibility for funding. More information about travel support will be provided upon confirmation of funded participation in the meeting.
