Buddy Bishop Future topics for each meeting are decided by those responsible for presentations and the facilitator will review questions and ideas from DPCAC members and community. The goal is to incorporate attention to these issues into presentations and discussions. Take two to three minutes to explain which Responsible Care code relates to the evening's topic. End the meeting by obtaining specific suggestions for the next month's meeting; for example, what members want to hear about in a presentation, what they want to see on a tour and so on. Confirm topics for the next few meetings. Be flexible enough to stick with a topic of interest for more than one meeting if the group wishes. Look at what other CACs are doing, particularly in regard to communication. Focus on the need for the community to know more about noticeable events, such as odors. Emergency Response and Communications We have four people who sen/e on the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) Public Awareness Subcommittee and meet jointly with representatives of CIMA. Include information on how planning for chemical emergencies relates to natural disaster preparedness. Find out when next CIMA drills are and what they will entail. Discuss with the LEPC and CIMA representatives how to improve community awareness. Do a news release about meeting and offer readers a way to contact CAC members with their questions or concerns before the meeting. Emergency Response and Communications (Continued) The Chemical Industry's Image July August Discuss industry's image in the community as well as nationally. Have a brief overview of the Chemical Manufacturers Association (CMA) public opinion surveys. Briefly summarize efforts to improve image: * CMA's Responsible Care program, the American Petroleum Institute's (API) STEP program and Clean Texas 2000. Consider what contributes to the image locally. No Meeting. This event is held In October each year and makes contact with thousands of community residents. Annual SARA Title III Reports October (Pollution Prevention Code). In addition to the annual reports, provide comparison with other areas, using information from other CAC areas, Texas Chemical Council, CMA or wherever it can be obtained. View a project at a plant that caused reduced emissions on the SARA report. Give attention to emissions that cause odors and flaring that increases emissions. Transportation (Distribution Code). Look at four modes of transportation: trucking, railroads, pipelines and barges. Bring in representative from each mode as well as a plant person who deals with that mode of transportation. Learn about volumes shipped and number and type of incidents as well as implementation of the CMA Distribution Code, ChemTrec, Quality Control and Department of 137589 STLCOPCB4037546 Page 5 November Transportation (DOT) regulations in the process. Tour a transportation facility at a plant, relating to each topic; e.g.f truck loading areas to view safety and emission control mechanisms. Economic Forecast II December Bring Dr. Bob Hodgin from University of Houston at Clear Lake back to talk about Deer Park's economic forecast.
