Below are ray general impressions and observations of the Southwire Plant concerning exposure potentials alleged in the lawsuit. 1. The plant appeared to have good housekeeping except for the third floor of the blending plant. On this floor, dust deposits were obvious in most areas of the floor. 2. Ventilation systems on the third floor of the blending plant seemed Inadequate. However, the unit was not in operation and the functioning of the system in existence could not be observed. 3. The Fine Wire Department is seperated from the blending plant by a wall. Several large doors are in the wall on the ground level. It is improbable that dust of any consequence could reach the Fine Wire Department from the third floor, even with these doors open. 4. The Fine Wire Department was very clean during our inspection. There were no apparent sources of dust or "fumes" In the area. No dust accumulation was observed In the area or on surrounding equipment. The nearest extruder was 40'-50' away. This extruder is small and it is improbable that this could be an exposure source. As mentioned, dust reaching this work area from the blending plant is unlikely. 5. During our tour of the plant, I saw no apparent need for local exhaust ventilation in the Fine Wire Department or other areas in the vicinity.
