Respiratory Protection Variance

Attached is the variance letter which we will send to the Labor Department.
The variance has been verbally granted by Ray McClure, OSHA Chief of Com pliance. We must, however, obtain a letter from him before we can be positive. At this point, no one from Conoco need appear in person.
The letter will be sent on March 25, and I advise you to make the necessary employee notifications that we indicate in it.
If there are no slipups, we should receive formal notification of approval before Apri1 1.

Attention Mr. James Concannon
Gentlemen:
* Hm
In phone conversations this application for variance was discussed with Mr. Ray McClure. He indicates he regards it favorably. For official purposes, however, he said that we should send the formal written vari ance application to your attention. He told us you would be aware of the situation and be looking for it. Under the circumstances, I am sending only one copy. Shou1d additiona1 copies be desirable, please let me know and I can furnish them.
Although we have word of Mr. McClure's favorable response to our request, it is very important that we receive written approval at the letterhead address so we may give copies of the information to our plants.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
David A. Kuhn Director of Biomedical and Environmental Affairs
