Good afternoon,
State Departments of Transportation play a pivotal role in the successful implementation of U.S. Department of Transportation surface transportation projects and programs. Your work represents the collective interests in your State in building much needed improvements to our national infrastructure system -- a key priority for Secretary Duffy and this Administration.
Accordingly, as Secretary Duffy and leaders from our agencies develop the Department's pillars and priorities for the upcoming surface transportation reauthorization process, your input will provide a vital perspective into the issues that should be considered.
On Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 11:30am, Secretary Duffy will convene the America is Building Again: Surface Transportation Priorities Kickoff Press Event. This event will be followed by an FHWA-led Breakout Session with State DOT CEOs. You are invited to attend the press event and participate in the breakout session.
Remarks from Secretary Duffy During the press event, Secretary Duffy will provide remarks announcing the start of the Department's reauthorization efforts. This event is open to any members from your State DOT.
FHWA-led State DOT CEO Breakout Session The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) will lead a session with all State DOT CEOs. This will be an opportunity to discuss the policies, thoughts, improvements, and related considerations that you would like to see FHWA, and the Department, pursue moving into the next reauthorization process. Key discussion topics include: (1) improved safety such as work zones, bridges, and truck parking; (2) accelerating project delivery; and (3) autonomous vehicles. We encourage you to share your goals in reauthorization along with any innovative ideas and approaches that represent the interests of your State. Attendance for this session is limited to your State DOT CEO, or designee, and one additional staff member.
