ACTIVATED SLUDGE RESPIRATION INHIBITION
TEST SUBSTANCE
Identity:Perfluorooctanesulfonylamido(ethyl)acetmaatye;also be referredtoas PFOSAA, FC-1 28 or as the major component of FC-127, FC-129, FC-109, or FC-109-X. (Glycine,N-ethyl-N[(heptadecafluorooctyl)sulfonpyolt]a-s,sium salt,CAS # 2991 51-7)
Remarks: The testsample isFC-109-X. Currentinformatioinndicates itisa mixtureof 19-23% testsubstance,61 % water,12% 2methoxymethylethoxypropanol,2% ethanol,and 2-6% C4-c7 fluoroalkyl carboxylatecompounds. Test sample was from 3M productionlot2.
The followingsummary is abbreviated because the testsample isa mixture of the testsubstance in a waterlorgank solvent solution. Data may not accuratelyrelatetoxicityof the testsample with thatof the testsubstance.
METHOD:
Methods: OECD 209 Test type:Staticacute GLP: No Year Completed: 1987 Inoculum: Activatedsludge mixed liquorcollectedfrom the CityofSt. Paul,Minnesota Wastewater Treatment Facility. lnoculum mixed liquorsuspended solids:2.9 g/L lnoculum holdind: None - used the day itwas obtained Analyticalmonitoring: Dissolvedoxygen concentrations -Exposure period: 30-minutesand 3-hours Measurements: Dissolvedoxygen depletionrateafter30-minutes and 3hours ofexposure.
RESULTS
Nominal concentrations: 2 Blank controls,100, 180, 320, 560, 1000 mg/L Elementvalues: 30-minuteECw=>1000mg/L
3-hourECw = >1 000 mg/L (5.9% inhibitioant 1000 mg/L)
Allelement values based on nominal concentrations.
Controrlesponse:The largepsetrcendtifferenbceetweencontrol uptake rateswas 4.3%; thus thetwo controlswere within15% ofeach other. 'Referencesubstance results:3,5-dichlorophenoalta concentrationof 10 mg/L induced45% inhibitiionrespiratiornate.Thiswas withinthe normal range seen inthislaboratorwyiththisinoculum.
Remarks: Testingwas conducted on the mixtureofthetestsubstanceas describedinthetestsubstance remarksfield.The valuereportedapplies tothatmixtureand notthetestsubstance. No attemptwas made to determinetheimpactofthepresence ofthe organicsolventsorwhat portionofthetoxicitcyan be contributetdothe Perfluorooctanesulfonylamido(ethyl)acetate.
CONCLUSIONS
The FC-109-X 3-hourEC60 foractivatedsludgerespiratioinnhibitiwoans determinedto be >1000 mg/L.
