At the present time, the Technical Committee of the Asbestos Information Association is dc.veloping work practices for all the basic asbestos industries. This is being done at the specific request of the Department of Labor. After these proposed work practices' have been submitted, officials of the Office of Standards of the Occupational. Safety and HeaLth Administration will visit representative factories to evaluate the effect of the proposed practices of the industry. Followingthis field evaluation, or perhaps con tempo raneous J.y with It, proposed work practices will bo evaluated by consultants. At present, we do not know who these consultants will be. .After foregoing steps have been completed, a new proposed standard will be written and published in the Federal Register. It is the hope of the Labor Department that by proceeding in a very deliberate and thorough manner, major 'objections to the proposed standard will be resolved before nub li. cat ion in the Federal Register. However, it is not likely all parties will he completely happy with the results and public, hearings will follow. However, it is my feeling that the matter will have been so thoroughly re viewed by al.1 parties concerned, prior to publication in tire Federal Reg ister, that the public hearings wilL not have much effect.
