Preparing Process Pumps For Maintenance 1.0 Objective: 1.1 To evacuate a process pump contents without leakage to the environment or product exposure to personnel. 2.0 Responsibility: 2.1 It is the responsibility of the operations personnel to ensure that this procedure is fully complied with. 2.2 It is the responsibility of the operations personnel to ensure that this procedure is executed in a safe and efficient manner. 3.0 Special Notation: 3.1 Before blowing liquid from pump into rerun line, be sure that no material is being pumped into the rerun line. The nitrogen may not be able to buck this flow. 3.2 A job completion checklist must be put on back of red tag master and followed accordingly. 4.0 Safety Notations: 4.1 Monogoggles, rubber gloves and block safety equipment are required. 5.0 Procedure: 5.1 Isolate and red tag the pump to be evacuated for maintenance. 5.2 Open suction bleed and drain into bucket. 5.3 Open discharge bleed allowing air flow for maximum drainage. 5.4 Block in flex hose at rerun line. 5.5 Block in nitrogen to pump and disconnect hose. The Controlled Document Resides In File: Preppro.doc DO A 059478 CONFIDENTIAL 5.6 Bleed pressure from pump at discharge bleed. 5.7 Disconnect 3/4* flex hose, flush with water, blow with air until dry, cap ends and store hose on hose rack. 6.0 Preparing To Put In Service: 6.1 After maintenance is performed. Pull all red tags. 6.2 The job completion checklist must be completed by craft personnel. 6.3 Close all bleeds and plug them. 6.4 Line up the pump to be pressure tested and do so. 6.5 Dow personnel must check the rotation of the pump if the motor was disconnected. 6.6 Dow personnel must then inform the electrician that the rotation was tested. 6.7 Also check to make sure the motor is grounded. 6.8 If everything checks out okay and all paperwork is completed.
