H eart, lun gs and abdomen were O.K. as were the e a r s, t o n sils and r e fle x e s. There was no h er n ia. Claimed no previous exposure to Pb. There had been qu estion able ex posure to Tbc. Gave no h ist or y o f il l n e sse s, fa llin g or fain t in g sp e lls. A blood smear taken a t t h is time showed 8 st ip p le c e lls in 50 o i l immersion f i e l d s . Blood smears taken subsequent to the h ir e date show st ip p le counts as follow s: 9/13/1+3 - 23, 9/20/h S - 20, 9/29/U3 - 2k, IO /6/I48 - 16, IO /II/I48 - 20, 10/25/U8 - 6 and I l/ l5 / u 3 - 16. The work done by t h is man co n sist s o f clean in g dry p ast e from the edge o f dried lead oxide b at t e r y p la t e s, u sin g a pu tt y k n ife and a wire brush . Th is work i s done in a closed room under what i s con sidered to be adequate exh aust. Air t e st s done in October, 19U8 show con cen tr ation s ran gin g from 0.76 to 23.2 mg in 10 era o f a i r . A,r epeat t e s t was run a t p o sit io n showing 23 mg a ft e r r e p air s had been made on the exh aust equipment. Mr. M artello was removed from exposure on September 21, alth ou gh t i t w ill be noted t h at elevat ion h as continued while a t non-exposure work. On November 20th , he reported to our Medical Department t h at he had had n ausea, abdomen ten dern ess and had vom itted se v e r al tim es in the l a s t two days.
