SUBJECT:
Damaged Resin Hopper Car - 5/3/92
At approximately 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 1992, Bobby Hawkins, Vinyl Shift Supervisor, was contacted by Keith Fogg, Safety Director at LCCP. Hawkins contacted Bob Seymour, Plant Manager at Aberdeen, who in turn contacted me at about 9:00 p.m. There was.a hopper car in a switch yard in the Chicago area with damage to the bottom outlet gates to two bins. This was discovered on Sunday, May 3.
I contacted Tom Kelly of S00 Line Railroad at 8:00 a.m. on May 6, 1992. He said that the damaged car was VIPX45809 and that only about 5000 pounds of resin remained in bins #1 and #2 of the car. The rest had been leaked out while moving the car around in the yard. 'The customer, Freedom Plastics in Janesville, Wisconsin, had been notified on Sunday. Mr. Kelly had spoken to Ken Taylor and Howard Usher of Freedom Plastics.
Steve Venner, S & T - Houston, was put in contact with Mr. Kelly to aid in determining what type of container to transfer- to and whether Freedom Plastics would take the remainder of the damaged car's load.
