The Biomedical Data Bases are distributed through the National Library of Medicine and Include TOXLINE, MEDLINE, and the associated bases CHEMLINE, CANCERLINE, and CANCERPROO. TOXLINE, or Toxicology Information On-line, is an extensive collection of computerized toxicology information. The material, dating from 1965 to present, represents over 375,000 bibliographic references, many with abstracts. The Trexlertown and Llnwood libraries have access to the material through their own terminals, so depending on the amount of material involved, a search and Its resulting bibliography can be completed on the day of request and can cost as little as $10. Subjects covered by the expanding data base are human and animal toxicity studies, effects of environmental chemicals and pollutants, adverse drug reactions, and analytical methodology. MEDLINE, or Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System On-line, Is composed primarily of half a million references dealing with all aspects of the biomedical field from 1969 to date. The references are Identical to those listed In Index Medlcus. the medical profession's basic Indexing source. Like TOXLINE, the MEDLINE computer Is accessed through a terminal. A search, which Is requested through the Trexlertown Library, usually costs about $15 and yields a bibliography within a week. AP00002689
