Report 1 on Blanket Request
Two s~ple. designated 336 B and 331 B were received and analyzed by x-ray diffraction by D.L. Harris with the
following results:
336 B
Talc with minor dolomite, very minor calcite
and Mica, trace of chlorite. Tremolite was
not detected. ~.l')
331 B
Talc with minor dolomite, very minor calcite and mica, trace of quartz, and chlorite. Tremolite probably-~l'. This determination is very marginal and baaed on a sligbt rise in background where the tremolite peak occurs. Our
detection level is .1' and this tremolite is barely detected.
Dr. Harris submitted these two lots to C.J. Parmentier for TEN photographs. Microscope observations confirm the X-ray data.

SUPPLEMENT TO 76-0l27-CIM-O.L. HARRIS
SubiKt:
SEM of C-400 and C-500 Special Blend Talcs
Objectiv8:
To prepare micrographs which illustrate each talc sample morphology, and illustrate mineral fibers if present.
Foreword:Two talc samples were submitted by Dr. D. L. Harris, along with a copy of the attached work order. The samples were received labled as special blends of C400 and C-500, lot numbers 336 Band 337 B respect-
.iverly .
These samples were prepared for scanning electron microscopy (SEM) by mixing a few milligrams of talc in ultrapure deionized water and dispersing with ultrasonic energy. A measured aliquot of the resultant dispersion was then applied to a SEM spec~en stub, dried, and coated with a vacuum evaporated, thin layer of metal. SEM examination followed at magnifications ranging from. 100 x to 10,000 x.
