The Bitumen Coating is a protective coating applied to the inside walls of the pipe to protect the pipe against soft water attack. Bitumen Coated A/C Pressure Pipe as described in this specification is available in Classes 100, 150, 200, and in sizes b inch through 2lt inch. All pipe (Standard, Random and Short lengths) and pipe adaptors (PAD 2, PAD 3, PAD 5 and PAD 11) shall be bitumen coated. Couplings and CouplingAdaptors are not to be coated. Composition The Bitumen Coating is a select blend of gilsonite blown and steam distilled asphalts in a solvent system. When the solvent evaporates the residue forms J a hard,durable coating that is impervious to water and does not add any poste, color or odor to potable water. Conformance Bitumen Coated Asbestos-Cement pressure pipe as manufactured to meet the requirements of these specifications will also meet the requirements of ASA Specification xA 21.U 196U. Physical Requirements Total Alkalinity The total alkalinity shall not increase by more than 25 PPM when tested in accordance with Test Method AVJWA C 10lt-6U. Hardness The hardness shall not increase by more than 25 PPM when tested in accordance with Test Method AV/U'A C 10U-6h. CouDlings Shall meet the requirements of CPC Standard Product Soecification No.' 1. Rubber Rings Shall meet the requirements of CPC Standard Product Specification No. 1, CPC Standard Purchasing Specification No. 503-B and ASTM Specification D 1369 latest issue. CERTA-SPACER band Shall be installed as described in CPC Standard Product Specification No. 1 and meet ti;e requirements of 1PC Standard Purchasing Specification No. 523. Finish Each tested pipe and pipe adaptor coated shall have an even semi-gloss black finish. The pipe shall be coated on the I.D. only. The ends shall not be coated. There shall be no pits, runs or brown spots. All pipe and pipe adaptors to be coated shall have first been visually inspected in accordance with the requirements of CPC Standard Product Specification No. 1. Coating Thickness The Bitumen Coating shall be applied with one pass of the probe. This will give a coating thickness of approximately two (2) mils. The minimum coating thickness shall be one and a half (1.5) mils., Marking The marking shall be in accordance with the requirements of CPC Standard Product Specification No. 1. In addition each pipe and pipe adaptor shall have stencilled near either end BITUMEN COaTED. Shipping Vfeiphts The shipping Weights shall be as shown in Standard Product Specification No. 1.
