Pydraul 312 was a hydraulic fluid manufactured by Monsanto Company prior to 1971. This product contained about 47% of the Monsanto product Aroclor 1242, a polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) fluid. The balance of the Pydraul 312 was primarily an organo phosphate ester fluid 2. Pydraul 230C is a hydraulic fluid made subsequent to 1971 as an environmentally suitable substitute fluid to replace polychlorinated biphenyl formulations. This product as manufactured, sold arid shipped does not contain any polychlorinated biphenyl components. Pydraul 230C is essentially an organo phosphate ester based fluid. 3. In 1970 and 1971, Monsanto sent letters to our customers informing them of products, including those in the Pydraul series that contained polychlorinated biphenyls and telling them of the concern for environmental persistence of these compounds.
