Application: fluororesin for measurement instrument-related applications Fluororesin used: PTFE (CAS No. 9002-84-0) Product Overview: reference reflectors and septums for calibration of colorimeters
Fluororesin is used in measurement instrument, reference reflectors used in the calibration of colorimeters such as color chromatometers, and septum materials for analytical vials.
Such an application requires properties such as reflectance, long-term stability (temperature and humidity resistance, light degradation resistance), heat resistance, chemical resistance, and purity, and fluororesin is employed as a member satisfying required specifications. Fluororesin is the only material that satisfies the abovementioned performance requirements, and no alternative products have been found.
If fluororesin is not usable for reference reflectors, routine calibration of colorimeters such as a color difference meter will not be possible.
If fluororesin is not usable for septum, silicone can be considered as an alternative. However, there is concern about the contamination of samples due to, for instance, elution of silicone-derived components. Fluororesin is required in terms of chemical resistance.
We believe that the restriction of the use of fluororesin in this application will make accurate measurements impossible and has a significant impact on society.
For this reason, we believe that no restriction is appropriate as per the proposal relating to restriction.
Representative properties of fluororesin are shown in the following table.
