I have been traveling for the pa3t five weeks. As I indicated during ny preliminary neeting v/ith you, tho V.G.P.H.D. has been interested in an environmental and a-medical study in the asbo3tos products manufacturing industry for some tine. They have only recently agreed to include our Pittsburgh Corning Plants at Tyler Texa3, and Port Allegany, Pennsylvania, it* tho environmental study. As you see from the copy of the write-up by Lewis J. Cralley which I have enclosed, they Intend doinf; nodical studies. As yet, however, they do not have the nancy for this study. Dr. Cralley has indicated that he vi.ll know in July whether they will be able to do the medical studies for our plants. Per this reason I would liko to hold off until July on making a final decision on your pro posed medical study. Our JlanuEcnent is vitally interested in accomplishing the medical study but v:ould like the U. .I' .u.3. to accomplish it as part of their total study.
