We have purposely refrained from giving them any detailed information in the belief that this will have already been provided to M.I.T.I. through either or both Ethyl Corporation and Dupont.

Vie acknowledge receipt of your letter Ho. 60-215 of
the 3rd September in which you refer to information on
Tetramethyl Lead which has been requested by M.I.T.I's Petroleum
Section. .
As you are aware this material at the present time is supplied from sources available to us in the United States. Vie presume therefore that H.I.T.I. will already have received, the answers to their- questions from the manufacturers in the U.S.A. and it would not appear to us to be necessary to repeat the technical information in their possession.
nevertheless the answers to the questions you have posed are as follows*
1. TetraMethyl Lead does not appear to be any more toxic than Tetraethyl Lead which is currently being used, in gasoline in Japan.
2. The chemical formula of T.M.L. is as follows;

3. The subsequent state of T.M.L. when blended vrlth gasoline is a homogeneous mixture, though precipitation may take place after long periods of storage in approximately the same manner as may occur with T.E.L.
*!-. The maximum concentration of T.M.L. in Motor gasoline permitted under our Terms of Supply is as follows*

As we are now requested by the MITI's Petroleum Station and the Petroleum Association of Japan to make the following enquiries, we would appreciate if you would kindly let us have your information in due course (in the course of September, if possible).
It is intended for reference in respect of necessary revisions in relevant laws and regulations when the importation of T.M.L. is officially recognised in future.
1. All information and data regarding the toxic character of T.M.L.
2. The chemical formula of T.M.L.
3. State subsequent to the blending of T.M.L. with Gasoline (i.e. whether it remains blended or becomes separated).
4. Suggested blending ratio with Gasoline according to uses.
If you have any information on other new anti-knock agents, we wish you would kindly let us know.
