Ludwig, Chief, Engineering and Physical Sciences Robert A* Taft Sanitary Engineering Center 4676 Columbia Parkway Cincinnati 26, Ohio Bear John: I reviewed the paper of Hofreuter, Brown, Miranda et all, which dealt with the analytical results on the blood of the subjects in Philadelphia, shortly after our last meeting, and then became involved in a series of seemingly inescapable chores which gave me no respite. I am getting my comments to you at the last moment. In reviewing the paper, I simply continued in the line of work in which I have been heavily engaged, (with graduate theses and reports). That is, I simply edited it, and I am sending the edited copy to you, for such purpose as it may serve. In doing this I trust that I shall not be thought to be discourteous or unnecessarily critical. There is no better way, however, by which I can reveal my reasons for the belief that this paper should not be published in its present form. (I recognize the possibility that my writing may be illegible). In my view, the atmosphere which pervades this paper is that of undertaking to make a case for the significance of lead in the atmosphere, rather than in presenting the data with appropriate reservations as to their interpretation.
