You will recall in July, I had indicated that O'Dell at the University of Oklahoma vras publishing an article in the Journal of Foultry Science vrtiich seemed to indicate that Aroclor 1242 used in paint for chicken coops caused chick edema. At that time, we transmitted a sample of 1242 to Horwitz who was unable to find compound X in the sample. Tills seemed to give our Aroclors a clean bill of health. Horwitz is now baek oh the trail. Because of the use of Aroclore-aB "extenders" for insecticides against roaches etc. in the poultry field, among others, lie feels the Ai-oelor line should be more fully checked out. He called this week indicating that the FDA might like to knew all about our Aroclor process of manufacture, cur methods cf analysis -- including chromatographic, our toxicity studies and anything else related to the Aroclors. In addition, he indicated that FDA might desire to send a man to St. Louis to spend some time learning the "Aroclor business". I calmed Korwitz down temporarily by transmitting our latest Arocior general sales booklet. I indicated if he did not get everything he desired from this booklet, to get in touch with me and I would proceed from there, When Horwitz has had a chance to look over the bulletin, I will be in touch with him again. What is our experience on the use of Aroclors as extenders in insecticides? I am aware that Eeltsville in '59 indicated 1 to 2 Aroclors in an Insecticidal formulation such as Lindane for non-crop use seemed to be quite effective. Do we have any later data in this area?
