F ollow in g a b r i e f d i s c u s s i o n by the co m m ittee, i t was t h e i r recommendation t h a t e a c h member company s t i m u l a t e employee p a r t i c i p a tio n by u rg in g th e p la n t employees t o w r ite and submit s a f e t y a rtic le s to the A ssociation. B . The com m ittee rev iew ed the B u l l e t i n form at and i t was th e consensus t h a t i t was s a t i s f a c t o r y in i t s p r e s e n t form . One member s u g g e s t e d t h a t a p o s s i b l e change be c o n s i d e r e d when t h e n e x t B u l l e t i n mast head i s p r i n t e d . The s e c r e t a r y i n d ic a te d t h a t p re s e n t B u l l e t i n s to c k supply would be d e p le te d a t the end of the f i s c a l y e a r , and a t th a t tim e , committee s u g g e s tio n s would be s o l i c i t e d . He s t r e s s e d t h e im p ortan ce o f a l l committee members keeping a b re a st with l o c a l , s t a t e , and f e d e ra l p o llu tio n programs. One member n o te d a r e c e n t problem i n v o l v i n g th e a s b e s t o s i n d u s t r y where a number o f lung ca rcin o m a c a s e s had been r e p o r t e d by i n h a b i t a n t s o f th e neighborhood su rrou n d in g an a s b e s t o s p l a n : . I t was f u r t h e r noted t h a t c l i n i c a l t e s t s and i n v e s t i g a t i o n s had r e s u l t e d ir. l e g a l a c t i o n a g a in s t th e m an u facturer by the c la im a n ts . The chairman i n d i c a t e d t h a t a i r and w a te r p o l l u t i o n problems would have a d ra m a tic e f f e c t on a l l i n d u s t r i e s and th a t the committee should take th e i n i t i a t i v e t o meet any such problems head on i f th e y should o ccu r in the gypsum i n d u s t r y . Following a discu ssion of p o llu tio n problems in various in d u s t r i e s , i t was the consensus t h a t the s a f e t y committee should have a more a c tiv e program in t h i s a r e a , o u tlin in g the problems th a t e x i s t and what s te p s have been taken t o so lv e them. Or. a m otion seconded and c a r r i e d , th e committee recommended t h a t th e ch airm an a d v ise the d i r e c t o r s o f th e p o l l u t i o n problem , and suggest th at they have plar.t managers jo in l o c a l groups studying p o llu tio n problems, so as to give our industry g r e a te r con trol of the problems. d o c k e t .
