After checking a little on the subject I have found out the following: P. Tate has an old TEM, but it would need to be serviced before we could use it. t SEM can be used in some cases, but according to Phil Tate, it also has some problems. L. Scholl of IH indicated that there was no regulation or push for ambient environmental monitoring. There is, however, a mandatory 0SHA regulated, NI0SH method for personal monitoring for asbestos. The method, in brief, involves collecting air samples on a filter via a pump, then use of a phase contrast light microscope for counting. The work is done by M. Stowers at the Technical Center. I think the identification of types of asbestos is something we could offer thru P. Tate's area if the need presents itself. The offering of asbestos analysis for personal monitoring could be checked out further as to UCC resources and market potential. Either service would open up a new cliental for T&RS. I am asking, by way of this letter, for information by all copied regarding their knowledge of market need, size, etc. on either service.
