Jim Hurd and the other management people In the Gypsum Division are most anxious to have you investigate this problem further and advise what corrective action you feel is indicated. I suggest that you contact Mr. Schlfferle and advise him when you will be able to come to the Akron area to handle this problem. During the course of your Investigation! I would appreciate a contact with Dr. Amdur for further explanation of some of his findings on specific employees. Also, at that time you can elicit from him, his recommendations with regard to what actions he feels should be taken in specific cases. Incidentally, none of these individuals tested by Dr. Amdur have filed workmen's compensation claims and we hope that they will not. In your travels you've probably come across other safety personnel who have asbestos exposure in their operations and it might be well for you to contact some of them together with whatever information you can with respect with how they've handled asbestos exposure situations. Of particular interest would be information with respect to what they do with the employees that have had asbestos exposure and who have positive findings, as we have with some of the employees at Akron. In your talks with Dr. Amdur, would you find out from him whether there is any evidence that any of the individuals who show a diminished vital capacity or pathology on x-ray have developed whatever the positive findings are as a result of an exposure to asbestos or any particulate matter in our Akron plant. This is becoming a priority matter and I would appreciate your immediately contacting Mr. Schlfferle and arranging to contact him at an early date.
