Machle, Dear Bill: Thanks very much for your letter of December 26 in connection to du Font's using tetraethyl lead for the manufacture of lignosan and ceresan. The question of organic compounds of lead being present in the finished product seems secondary to the fact that tetraethyl lead itself is used in the process and what we wanted to particularly point out was the possibility of lead poisoning to the operators at the Dye Works who manu facture the above fungicides. While I realize that we have no responsibility in the situation, nevertheless if there should be any case of poisoning, I feel that it would be bound to react unfavorably against our general picture. On the other hand, I appreciate that the du Pont organization., is perfectly competent to handle their own affairs, but I am not sure that the same precautions are taken in the handling of tetraethyl lead for these products as is taken in the actual manufacture of the lead at our plant.
