Office of Director of News TOLEDO BLADE Toledo, Ohio March 9, 1954 Mr. Manfred Bowditeh Lead Industries Association 420 Lexington Avenue New York 17, N. Y. , Dear M r . Bowd itch: I doubt if there is a newspaper in the United States that uses greater care in protecting the ac curacy of its report than the Toledo Blade. But sometimes great care may not, be sufficient. It is entirely possible that the contentions you ha\Te made about the Feb. 27th lead poisoning story out of Vienna are valid. In fact, X am inclined to agree with you. This was one of those" things that just slipped through. Ordinarily, we do not deal with scientific or highly technical subjects unless they are adequately documented, or passed on by our own experts. The Vienna story did not receive that test. ' The Blade has asked Reuters to further explore the subject, and has suggested that they communicate with you. Yours very truly, /s/ Paul A. Schrader Paul A. Schrader
