TREASURY DEPARTHENT Public Health Service
WASHINGTON

Hr. E. W. Webb, President Ethyl Gasoline Corporation Chrysler Building 405 Lexington Avenue New York, N. Y.
dear Hr. Wehbs
This will acknowledge receipt of your letter of August 1, concerning the use of tetraethyl lead in aviation gasoline.
It is my understanding that it is the intention of your Company to permit the use of tetraethyl lead in gasoline of 83 octane number and above, limiting this to gasoline for aviation purposes, in amount not to exceed 4-1/2 c.c* tetraethyl lead per U. S. gallon.
The Public Health Service can see no objection to the above proposal, provided the recommended precautions in regard to ethyl gasoline are observed (as given in Public Health Service Bulletin No. 163), covering the mixing and marketing of ethyl gasoline.
Very truly yours.
H. S. Cumming, Surgeon General
