Failmezger SUBJECT: Alternate Talc For Joint Compounds August 28, 1979 This is to follow up our phone conversation of August 28, in which you informed me that due to the Rock Island Railroad strike, you are unable to obtain Windsor TC-100 talc from Vermont. 1979 You asked for our approval to use talc #2794 Cisco-XX from Whitaker Clark and Daniels in order to continue production and avoid a shut down of the Joint Compound operation. In our conversation you also stated that you are in pos session of a letter from the supplier which certifies that the #2794 Cisco-XX talc is asbestos-free and that it meets Osha standard 1910.93A - #20. Based on this information we grant you approval to use this talc on an emergency basis for one week only. In the interim you agreed to randomly sample ten bags of the Cisco talc immediately and send via air mail special delivery to Research (my attention). From these we will prepare a uniform representative sample and have it analized by McCrone Laboratories in Chicago, to assure that this talc is indeed free of asbestos fibers. yIf you have an further questions about this, please call me.
