W. ' CHLORINE PLANT HtOGRESS REPORT ON COMPLIANCE WITH WALSH HEALY REGULATIONS OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH The following are improvements either completed or underway in the Chlorine Plant: 1. A muffler for a steam vent in the Brine Treating Area has been purchased and delivered and awaits installation. 2. Another noise problem has been alleviated with the insulation of lines from the discharge of C-5 and C-6. 3. The discharge lines of C-l and C-2 have also been insulated for a similar problem. 4. Procedural changes have been made in the handling of asbestos. The operator is required to wear a respirator and the asbestos is handled in a water wetted form. 5. A Gerdes1 chlorine monitor has been installed atop AT-120, a chlorine absorption column venting to the atmosphere. 6. Another chlorine monitor is proposed for the vent of the scrubber ST-15. 7. Four chlorine monitors have been installed in representative places in the Cell Building. There is also one monitor at the entrance of Cell Service. 8. Brine feed temperature has been dropped to reduce the vapor from cell effluent. 9. The HC1 scrubber at the acid storage area has been modified to eliminate" HC1 venting.
