RD/CH/13 I have been asked by some representatives of the chemical industry to review the evidence relating vinyl chloride to the development of cancers in organs other than the liver in Man and would be most grateful for your help. One problem that cropped up immediately I began to look up the literature was that some papers Included data already reported in others. It is, therefore, very difficult to know how much independent evidence there is. Another was that reference was made to data reported by Equitable Environmental Health but the paper was just described as "Epidemiological study of vinyl chloride workers. Prepared for Manufacturing Chemists Association, 1978". Have you made any update of the data yourself since your paper with Tabershaw in 1974? Any help you can give me with (a) sources of cohort data other than the above mentioned and Waxweiler et al. (1976), Byren et al. (1976), Fox and Collier (1977), Buffler et al. (1979), Ott et al. (1975), Cooper (1981), von Reine et al. (1977), Nicholson et al. (1975), and Heldoas et al. (1984), and (b) the identification of cohorts that were reported both individually and in general industry surveys would be most helpful.
