And protection is exceedingly difficult. When the boilers are in operation, the heat of the stack may injure the paint film. The problem is to hold the paint film intact. Many paints fail at extremeboiler-stacktemperatures, leaving the steel incompletely protected when the stack becomes cool. Such is not the case with pure red-lead. Up to the maximum stack temperatures for normally operated boilers, red-lead main tains an unbroken protective coating. When you paint boiler-stack steel with pure red-lead, you are giving it the best possible protec tion. Pure red-lead paint resists the corrosive attack of air and moisture. It stands up under the heat of boiler stacks. It sticks close to the metal. It produces an elastic film which does not crack when the steel contracts and expands under alternate cool ing and heating. It is not injured by boiler gases. Gas men endorse red-lead Pure red-lead is the accepted paint for metal of the gas industry. Wherever idiere is metal to pro tect, gas men are almost unani mous in their use ofthis protective paint. This fact was proved by a questionnaire sent to gas men in all parts of the country. Ninety-three gas men answered this questionnaire. And 78 of them --84%--said they use, specify, or recommend pure red-lead for metal protection. There is no better red-lead than Dutch Boy red-lead. You can get it in either paste or liquid form. The liquid comes in the natural orange-red fomext-to-metal coats, and also in greens, browns, and black for finishing coats.
