Snively We met with plant management, union representatives (i.e., local and international) of the Nitro plant on 12/17 to present results of the Monsanto update of the 1949 accident and to receive input on how the communication to employees and former employees could best be handled. Responses to the presentation were favorable and all agreed to keep the information confidential until the formal release scheduled for the end of January. T. McKean wanted us to provide the plant physician and nurse with study details to help them answer questions of current employees when they are notified of the results. We agreed to provide this training. He also requested a press release be put together in case it is required, and we also agreed. This same presentation has been given to Queeny management and union representatives and will be given to Krummrich in early January. In the evening, we also sat in on a community meeting sponsored by the plant. A presentation was made by a local physician stressing the need for more information about the health status of the local population. We volunteered to facilitate collection of the many epidemiologic studies which had been done in the Kenawha valley by Monsanto, DuPont, Union Carbide, FMC, the University of Pittsburgh, and NIOSH. We will work through the plant to provide NICS, a local community group, with this information.
