Wofford This was the scheduled monthly meeting. \ ORGANIZATIONAL Sharon Davenport was appointed to the committee on March 1 to replace Andy Liao, who finished his term. Cross' experience in the 1Q83 inspection. this duty takes two days. OLD BUSINESS Cylinder Rack North of Research 1 The cylinder rack north of R-l has been fixed to make changing cylinders easier. Safety Shower Alarm in Catalyst Preparation Lab At the February 16 meeting, a subcommittee was appointed to investigate the safety shower alarm for the catalyst preparation lab (B2165). The subcommittee recommended that a telephone dialer be placed on the present alarm box. This was accepted. The dialer has been ordered and electricians have been requested to install it. If the shower is used, the dialer will call the PSBU or the Main Gate. In addition, a buzzer will be installed in a nearby lab that is manned during the day shift. Safety Guidelines for Gas Pressure Regulators The discussion on safety guidelines for the pressure regulators on high pressure gas cylinders was concluded. We will recommend that gas cylinders continue to be placed outside, that pressure be reduced before the gas enters the lab, and that shut-off valves be installed inside. Vents for hazardous gas regulators inside labs will be installed at the SC 001699 2- - discretion of the researcher. A list of hazardous gases will be compiled from the site safety manual. After approval, we will issue the guidelines in a memo to Tech Center scientists, engineers, and technicians. Tech Center Safety/Housekeeping Inspection The inspection will take place on April 20, 1983. The emphasis will be on safety practices and the STOP program. A formal notice will be posted shortly. NEW BUSINESS Schedule for Remainder of Year We identified a period during the summer when we have few activities. Some suggestions were made and they will be discussed further at the next meeting. Drug and Alcohol Abuse Program We have been asked to help SHAC develop a program. We will discuss what might be done and what, if any, drug or alcohol related problems this plant-site might have.
